Greenpoint-Brooklyn Community Information

Greenpoint’s notable landmarks and attractions for the first-time visitor (and long-term resident) include McCarren Park (formerly Greenpoint Park) and McGolrick Park (formerly Winthrop Park). McCarren Park is a popular spot for recreational sports and includes several fields and a running track, and has hosted several league-controlled kickball and dodgeball games. The Renegade Craft Fair, a do-it-yourself event, is hosted at McCarren Park. Greenpoint’s other park, the smaller McGolrick Park, features a monument to the USS Monitor ironclad ship and the Shelter Pavilion, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other areas of interest include the Greenpoint Historic District, the Astral Apartments on Franklin Street, Saint Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, and the Eberhard-Faber Pencil Factory on Greenpoint Avenue and Franklin Street, among a host of others.
